El Nino is coming, are you prepared?

Brad Stoner - Tuesday, September 11, 2012

The weird weather we have all experienced these past few weeks was predicted by the National Weather Service Prediction Center.  They also predict that El Niño will be returning this year.

El Niño brought large amounts of rain to San Diego in 1997 and 2010.
What is El Niño? El Niño is a climate phenomenon within the oceanic-atmospheric system in the tropical Pacific Ocean. This occurrence can influence temperature and precipitation patterns not only there but elsewhere in the world.

Did you know? The name El Niño, in Spanish, means "the child" indicating that the event usually becomes prevalent in December, during the Christmas season. The process that brings El Niño about often occurs several months in advance.  El Niño affects the US in many different ways but in San Diego it means a heat wave that turns into massive amounts of rain.

What does that mean to you?  Extended periods of large amounts of rain can wreak havoc on the exterior of your home.

How can you do to prepare yourself for El Niño?
Paint your home!  If you have been thinking about repainting your home fall is the perfect time to get it done.  It may be your last chance to protect your home from the moisture and impending rot that can take place in a normal winter not to mention an El Nino late fall early winter.

Failing to take the necessary steps to protect your home can be very costly. If a home goes unpainted through the winter you may end up with extensive wood damage that could cost thousands to repair. The easiest way to prevent this is with a fresh coat of paint before winter weather sets in. A good paint job in the fall could protect your home for ten years or longer.

Fall is a great time to paint your home because less foliage around your home can get in the way of painting all the surfaces. Also, for a minimal fee, we can clean your gutters of any leaves or debris. We already have our ladders up on your home, why not clean the gutters too!

Call us today at 888-357-5334 and get a free estimate and inspection of your El Nino preparedness to give you the peace of mind when that first storm hits. Like 2010, it may never let up. In December 2010 alone, San Diego received 10” of rain! Be proactive about your biggest investment…your home!
