Let Your Exterior House Painting Speak for Itself

Brad Stoner - Monday, June 17, 2013

Taking care of some exterior house painting is a chance to reinvent your image. Nothing will have a bigger impact on your curb appeal and how the neighborhood perceives you. Choose a color scheme that matches the architecture and retains the house’s personality. Consider these combinations when you are choosing your palette.

Colonial Style

If your home is an English Tudor, you might want to choose a color scheme that is elegant and stately. Think classical and smoky colors just a few shades lighter than earth tones. White trims are a must with this traditional style. Modernize the look with dark brown shutters to contrast with the light tan body. The door is the place to add the biggest splash of color. Go with a deep red or blue to keep with the imperial manner.

Spanish Villa

This home style meshes perfectly with colors that match the inspirational adobe combinations. For the body of the house, choose a deep earthy tan color that mimics golden desert sand. If you choose a tan that is too bright, then you run the risk of your exterior house paint washing out in the San Diego sun. For the striking terra cotta shingles, keep up the original aesthetic by using a rusty red hue. For the window accents and door, use a dusky gray/brown color for the perfect contrast.

Craftsman Style

This style of home is open to many possibilities. Choosing the right colors can add untold amounts of fairy tale charm to this kind of home. Make sure that the colors are deep and rich. For the body, go with a color that mimics a sage-brownish green. Roof accents should be closer to the blue-green spectrum while additional touches can come in deep purples and burned oranges.

Choosing the right colors can make all of the difference in how your project turns out. If you aren't sure about something, contact us at BradStonerPainting.com. After all, we are the paint experts.
