San Diego Paint Goes Green

Rachel Williams - Saturday, February 22, 2014

The phrase “going green” is thrown around a lot these days. What does it mean and why should you care? From phrases like “Low VOC” to “No VOC”, we’re here to help you unlock the best-kept residential and commercial house painting secrets.

What are VOCs?

Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) are solvents with a high vapor pressure. They include benzene, formaldehyde and toluene, among others. When you paint, these gases are released into the air as the paint dries as well as for many years to come. Along with San Diego paints, items like cleaning products, adhesives, air fresheners and home furnishings are also known to release these solvents into the air.

How Will This Affect Your San Diego Painting?

When you buy a can of paint, the federal government has already capped the VOC content of that paint can at a certain level. Paint manufactures like Sherwin Williams, Dunn Edwards and Behr have their own VOC standards, depending on the type of paint and customer demand.

If you’re concerned about the potential side effects of VOCs, or are more affected by short-term side effects like nausea and dizziness, you might want to consider buying a low VOC or no VOC paint brand.
