San Diego Painting: Start with These Popular Summer Projects

Rachel Williams - Monday, June 16, 2014

What projects are trending in residential and commercial painting this season? If you’re looking to repaint but don’t have time for a full-fledged makeover, summer is the perfect season to give those outdoor projects you’ve been avoiding a little extra attention.

These five projects can not only be done in a weekend, but they’re perfect for a sunny day. Check them out below:

Window Trim

Painting your window trim is often last on many homeowners' or property managers' lists. Why? This space is small and tends to go unnoticed... until it really needs your attention, that is.

Leaving window trim unpainted for years can lead to wood rot and other problems. Take the time this summer to reexamine the window trim on your school property, home or building before moving on to other projects.

Drain Pipes

Certainly not the most glamorous item on this list, summer is the perfect time to take a look at those drain pipes lining your home or commercial property. With the chance of rain even lower during the summer, repainting these pipes is a great way to take advantage of summer dry spells.

Electrical Boxes

Next time you’re driving down Adams Avenue or walking down one of San Diego's busy streets, check out the electrical boxes around you. Prone to graffiti and other acts of vandalism, many of San Diego’s electrical boxes have undergone a makeover during the past year. From inspirational quotes, to portraits and elaborate artwork, there’s really no excuse for not painting something so small.

While you probably won’t see these fantastically-colored boxes in many business parks around San Diego, a fresh coat of standard paint will certainly do a lot to help improve the appearance of any property.

Door Frames

Whether door frames are painted or stained, they tend to be one of the most used areas in our homes, businesses or schools. What does this mean for owners and managers? This means greasy finger prints, chips in wood casings, and other problems will arise sooner than almost any other area.

Keeping up on routine maintenance by sanding, priming and repainting door frames and wood casings before the rest of your hallways or exteriors need painting is a great way to prolong the life of your property.

Fiberglass Light Poles

Often the victims of parking lot rage and rushed drivers, fiberglass light poles are one of the easiest items on our list. Surprisingly, many property owners don’t realize these poles can be enhanced with something as simple as a fresh coat of paint.
